4 Hours of Racing
Broadcast LIVE by Racer Nexus
John Dobias was a longtime member of the Freedom Motorsports Alliance and, quite simply, one of the nicest guys we've ever had the privilege of racing with.
John may not have been the fastest driver on the grid, but that never stopped him from showing up. He raced virtually every oval event FMA put together, no matter the car or combination. And while he may have been a bit of a weapon on the track from time to time, you would never hear John say something bad about another driver.
If he made a mistake, he owned it.
That's just who John was.
In 2025, John's life changed dramatically.
While lowering his American flag from a ladder on his patio, a sudden gust of wind caught the flag and pulled John from the ladder. The resulting fall left him paralyzed.
John spent the following months fighting to regain his strength and learn to walk again.
Whenever John and FMA leadership spoke after his accident, there was one thing he kept coming back to:
He wanted to race with us again.
Getting back out there with his FMA family was one of the things that motivated him through his recovery. Racing wasn't just a hobby to John. It was something he genuinely looked forward to, and something he desperately wanted to return to.
Unfortunately, John continued to battle serious complications related to his paralysis, including infections. After months of fighting, John passed away a couple of months ago.
John's disability and resulting medical retirement as a correctional officer placed a significant financial burden on him and his wife. Along with the medical expenses they faced throughout his illness and the costs associated with his funeral, the family is now dealing with a burden no family should have to carry alone.
So we're doing what we know how to do.
We're going racing.
On November 7th, FMA will bring together drivers from across the sim racing community for the John Dobias Memorial 4 Hours of Monza.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will go directly toward supporting the Dobias family.
This will be a GTP and GT3 multiclass team endurance race around one of the most iconic circuits in motorsport.
And we're opening the doors beyond FMA.
FMA drivers, former members, friends, teammates, and drivers from other leagues and communities are all invited to join us.
Build a team. Bring your friends. Pick your class. Get your car ready.
Then come spend four hours doing what John wanted to do more than anything:
Go racing with us.
The goal is simple.
FILL THE GRID FOR JOHN.
The more drivers and teams we bring together, the more support we can provide John's family and the more meaningful this event becomes.
This race isn't just about who wins.
It's about bringing a community together for one of our own.
It's about honoring a driver who kept showing up.
It's about giving John's family some support when they need it most.
And it's about putting his name on the grid one more time.
