Twenty-six years ago, Scorpio Motorsport began its racing journey in Formula Renault in the United Kingdom. Since then, the team has gone on to compete at some of the highest levels of British motorsport, collect race wins and secure two Formula Renault championships.
Now, in 2026, that story comes back to where it began.
Formula Renault Scorpio Legacy is a new esports championship created by Scorpio eSports, Cactara Racing and RaceGen, celebrating 26 years of Scorpio Motorsport and its Formula Renault heritage.
But this is not simply a championship inspired by the past. It has been built around it.
The series is raced in the Formula Renault 2.0, the very type of car that formed an important part of Scorpio Motorsport's early racing history. Even more significantly, the championship has been designed around the spirit and structure of the 2013 Formula Renault BARC season, a championship in which Scorpio eSports Team Principal Ivan Taranov raced for Scorpio Motorsport. That means the drivers will experience more than just a fast single-seater championship. They will experience a format rooted in real racing history, on circuits that echo the British Formula Renault era, with a race structure inspired by the championship as it was actually contested.
This is sim racing with real motorsport DNA.
The championship follows a six-round calendar inspired by the 2013 Formula Renault BARC season.
September 8 Donington Park National
September 15 Snetterton 200
September 22 Thruxton
October 6 Oulton Park Island Substituting Croft
October 13 Charlotte Roval, No Chicanes Substituting Rockingham
October 20 Silverstone National
The racing format follows the structure of the real 2013 championship.
Each round begins with 60 minutes of practice, followed by 10 minutes of open qualifying before the lights go out. The first and final rounds feature two 20-minute races, while the four rounds in between feature three 20-minute races.
The championship uses a traditional Formula Renault-style points structure, with points awarded down to 15th place and one additional point for the fastest lap in every race.
А driver's best 15 scores will count towards the championship, with additional points being discarded, following the scoring philosophy used in the real championship.
The winner of Formula Renault Scorpio Legacy will receive two tickets to a British GT / GB4 event, including a paddock pass and an exclusive meet & greet with the Scorpio Motorsport team and drivers. It is a prize deliberately designed to take the winner beyond the screen and into the real paddock.
That is the philosophy behind Scorpio eSports. The objective is not simply to create another online league where drivers compete for a digital trophy. It is to create an environment where talented racers can demonstrate their ability, develop their skills and potentially open doors into real motorsport.
The championship will also feature live broadcasts with commentary on YouTube, giving drivers the opportunity to race in a professionally presented environment and put their performances in front of an audience.
A custom rulebook will be provided through the Scorpio eSports Discord, ensuring that competitors know exactly what is expected before they take to the grid.
Entry fee is 10 GBP per driver and used to cover the broadcast costs.
Formula Renault has always been about finding out who is ready for the next step.
For Scorpio Motorsport, it was where the story began. For Ivan, it is part of the racing history that ultimately shaped the path towards professional motorsport and a development driver role in Force India Academy. For Scorpio eSports, it represents the philosophy that sits at the heart of the organisation today: where sim racers become real racers. Formula Renault Scorpio Legacy brings all three together.
26 years of Scorpio Motorsport. One legendary category. Six rounds. One championship. The legacy starts again on September 8.
